Below is a table showing how the various portions of the day are labeled in Wolof.

ENGLISH WORD	WOLOF WORD	WHEN USED

afternoon	ngoon	from about 2pm to nightfall
midnight	xaaju guddi *	at midnight

* Literally, “half of the night” (xaaju – to divide, seperate, part, portion).

Ci suba. – In the morning.
